GridCraft

open-source spreadsheet app by ArtCraft, modelled on Microsoft Excel

History Claim

GridCraft is a free, open-source spreadsheet program modelled on Microsoft Excel, made by ArtCraft. Written in Rust, it runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and BSD and in a browser through WebAssembly. ArtCraft describes it as a clean-room take on the Excel workflow.

History and availability

GridCraft was first released on 8 October 2026, alongside DeckCraft and a day after WordCraft, as part of a set of Crafting Apps modelled on Microsoft Office programs. Tom's Hardware reported the three Office-style apps as built with Claude and described them as a "targeted protest" against subscription software, while noting that most were still far from what they set out to replace. It is released under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence; builds are on its page at getartcraft.com, in the storytold/gridcraft releases on GitHub and through the ArtCraft Launcher.
