Freedom Fibre
British wholesale full-fibre network operator
Freedom Fibre is a British wholesale full-fibre (FTTP) network operator based in Irlam, Greater Manchester. It builds open-access fibre networks that other internet service providers sell over, and since April 2026 it has been the wholesale arm of the Freedom Truespeed Group, formed by its merger with the retail provider Truespeed.
History
Freedom Fibre Limited is registered in England and Wales and was set up as a wholesale-only fibre platform; Darren Woods, described by the company as a founding member and seed investor, has sat on its board since the start. It was backed by the infrastructure investors InfraBridge and Equitix. By early 2026 its network reached about 350,000 premises with around 25,000 customers connected through partner providers, in parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, North Wales, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Essex and North Shropshire, according to ISPreview. Its sister retail brand is LilaConnect.
In February 2026 Freedom Fibre and Truespeed, a rural fibre operator in South West England funded by Aviva Investors, agreed to combine. The merger completed on 30 April 2026, creating the Freedom Truespeed Group with a combined footprint of about 412,000 premises ready for service and 70,000 customers. Freedom Fibre continues as the group's wholesale network, while Truespeed and LilaConnect remain customer-facing brands; Nathan Vautier is the group's chief executive.
Services
Freedom Fibre's network carries residential connections of up to 2.3 Gbit/s symmetric and business services sold by partner providers, which include Olilo and Truespeed. It has taken part in the government's Project Gigabit programme and Gigabit Voucher Scheme.
