Cursor
source code editor developed by Anysphere
Cursor is an AI coding agent and code editor made by Anysphere, the San Francisco company that trades as Cursor. Since August 2026 Anysphere has been part of SpaceXAI, the artificial intelligence division of SpaceX. Cursor is built on a fork of Visual Studio Code. Developers use it to write, edit and review software by describing what they want in plain language, and its AI agents can plan changes across a whole codebase, run commands and tests, and open pull requests.
Features
Cursor's features include:
- Tab, an AI autocomplete that predicts the next edit;
- Agent, which carries out multi-step coding tasks;
- cloud agents, which run in parallel on their own computers;
- Bugbot, which reviews pull requests on GitHub;
- a command-line tool, web and mobile apps, and a Slack integration.
Developers can choose AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and SpaceXAI, as well as Cursor's own Composer models.
History
Anysphere was founded in 2022 by four MIT students: Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark and Aman Sanger. Cursor became one of the fastest-growing software products. It passed $100 million in annual recurring revenue in January 2025 and reached about $3 billion by May 2026, and it is used at more than half of the Fortune 500. In April 2026 SpaceX secured the right to buy the company for $60 billion. The all-stock acquisition closed on 14 August 2026. Cursor and SpaceXAI jointly developed Grok Bot, an always-on AI agent service launched the same month.
