Ernie Smith

American journalist

History Claim

Ernie Smith is a journalist and designer best known for Tedium, the newsletter and website he has run since 2015. He describes himself as a journalist, designer and content strategist, and says he has worked as a designer at several daily newspapers.

Work

Tedium deliberately covers niche subjects in technology and history that, in Smith's words, "generally wouldn't stand a chance of going viral". His writing has also appeared in Vice, Fast Company and Inverse. In October 2026 he reviewed ArtCraft's Crafting Apps for Tedium, calling the suite "vibe-coded" and DesignCraft "an InDesign riff".
