LightCraft
open-source photo library and raw developer by ArtCraft, modelled on Lightroom
LightCraft is a free, open-source photo library and non-destructive raw developer modelled on Adobe Lightroom, made by ArtCraft. It is written from scratch in Rust, runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD and in a browser through WebAssembly, and works without an account, cloud service or telemetry. It follows the cloud-based Lightroom (formerly Lightroom CC) rather than Lightroom Classic.
Features
- A scene-referred, wide-gamut, 32-bit floating-point pipeline that never changes the original files.
- Light, colour and effects controls, a tone curve, an eight-band colour mixer, three-way colour grading wheels and 18 built-in presets.
- Brush, linear and radial gradient, luminance and colour range masks, plus sky, subject and background masks.
- Raw decoders written in Rust for DNG, CR2, ARW, NEF, RAF (including X-Trans), RW2, PEF and ORF files.
- A library with albums, ratings, flags and field search.
History and availability
LightCraft was first released on 2 October 2026 as one of the seven original Crafting Apps and is marked as in development. According to PetaPixel, Brandon Thomas said he had received many requests for a Lightroom Classic equivalent; Phoronix listed LightCraft among ArtCraft's first AI-built clean-room reimplementations. It is released under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence; official builds are on its page at getartcraft.com, in the storytold/lightcraft releases on GitHub and through the ArtCraft Launcher.
