Work
The foundation provides financial support and guidance to developers who maintain PHP and improve its security, and who implement new features approved through the PHP community's RFC process. It also works to attract and keep contributors and users, and represents the interests of the PHP language and community in open source policy discussions. Its sponsors include software companies and other organisations that use PHP.
Security
In 2024 the foundation obtained funding from the Sovereign Tech Agency to organise PHP's first external security audit in years, carried out by Quarkslab. In October 2026 it published an account of how the PHP2Shell vulnerabilities were found and fixed, and called on organisations that depend on PHP to support its security work.
