Joma Tech

YouTube channel of Jonathan Ma

History Claim

Joma Tech is a YouTube channel by the Canadian software engineer and former data scientist Jonathan Ma, known online as Joma. It makes comedy sketches and videos about working as a programmer in Silicon Valley and at big tech companies, and had about 2.35 million subscribers in October 2026.

Content

Ma began posting tech videos in 2017, while he was a data scientist at Facebook. The early channel mixed career advice, such as how he landed internships and data-science jobs, and interviews with other engineers with comedy. "Startup", a seven-episode mockumentary, followed a fictional version of him building "NotVine", a six-second looping-video app. His sketch "If Programming Was An Anime" became one of the channel's best-known videos and grew into a series, with a third part in 2022. Other videos send up coding interviews, big-tech office life, start-up founders, crypto and "entrepreneur" influencers.

Break and return

After December 2022 the channel went quiet for nearly three years. Ma came back in September 2025 with a video on why he had left YouTube and the sketch "life of an AI startup founder/CEO". Since then he has made sketches about AI and tech jobs, among them "If Yu-Gi-Oh was about Tech Jobs" (2026), and sponsored videos as a ChatGPT partner of OpenAI.
