PdfCraft
open-source PDF editor by ArtCraft, modelled on Acrobat
PdfCraft is a free, open-source PDF workbench modelled on Adobe Acrobat, made by ArtCraft. It reads, organises, combines, splits and secures PDF files, is written from scratch in Rust, and runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD and in a browser through WebAssembly, without an account, telemetry or cloud service. It was first announced as PrintCraft, and some early coverage uses that name.
Features
- Rendering of world scripts, vertical Japanese text, colour emoji and transparency.
- Search as you type, and text selection that follows a document's reading order.
- Rotating, deleting, inserting and reordering pages, with deep undo.
- Combining, extracting and splitting documents while keeping links, form fields, layers and bookmarks.
- Incremental, atomic saves with autosave and crash recovery, and support for encrypted files from RC4 to AES-256.
History and availability
PdfCraft was first released on 2 October 2026 as one of the seven original Crafting Apps and is labelled early alpha. TechSpot and Gizmodo, writing before the rename, described PrintCraft as ArtCraft's alternative to Acrobat Pro, and Tedium tried it as PDFCraft. It is released under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence; official builds are on its page at getartcraft.com, in the storytold/pdfcraft releases on GitHub and through the ArtCraft Launcher.
