FakeYou

AI voice and video generation website run by ArtCraft

History Claim

FakeYou is a website for generating speech and video in the voices of celebrities, fictional characters and other people using AI, run by ArtCraft (formerly Storyteller). It offers text-to-speech, voice-to-voice conversion and face animation, and most of its voice models are submitted by users.

History

FakeYou grew out of Vocodes, a neural text-to-speech site with dozens of celebrity voices that Brandon Thomas launched at vo.codes in July 2020 and described as a pandemic side project; the vo.codes address later redirected to fakeyou.com. A Hacker News post about FakeYou reached more than 380 points in December 2021. The site's terms of use name its operator as Learning Machines, Inc., doing business as Storyteller, the company later renamed ArtCraft, and FakeYou's pages now promote the ArtCraft app.

Policies

FakeYou's terms forbid using it to impersonate, deceive or abuse anyone, require published uses to be labelled as deepfakes, and allow commercial use only of voices specially marked for it. The site says the audio it generates is watermarked, and that it removes voice models and content on request from copyright holders, the original speakers or voice actors.
