Chris Shelton
American former Scientologist
Chris Shelton is an American writer, educator, activist and YouTuber who works on cult psychology, coercive control and recovery from high-control groups. A former Scientologist, he worked for the Sea Org until 2012 and later earned a Master of Science in the Psychology of Coercive Control from the University of Salford in the United Kingdom. He wrote the books Scientology: A to Xenu and What Now? A Practical Guide to Life After a Cult, and hosts the podcast Speaking of Cults. His YouTube channel, Chris Shelton, MSc, covers coercive control, cult recovery and critical thinking, and had about 48,400 subscribers in October 2026.
