Casey Johnston

Casey Johnston (born 6 February 1987) is an American writer, journalist and editor who grew up in the Adirondacks and studied applied physics at Columbia University's engineering school. She has worked in media since 2008, and in 2016 she started Ask A Swole Woman, a science-based column about strength that is now part of her newsletter, She's A Beast. Her books include LIFTOFF: Couch to Barbell, a beginner strength training book published in December 2021, and A Physical Education, which combines the history, science and psychology of strength with her own experience of learning to lift weights and was published by Hachette/Grand Central in May 2025.
