Richard Cordray

Richard Adams Cordray is an American lawyer and politician who served from 2021 to 2024 as chief operating officer of Federal Student Aid in the U.S. Department of Education. A member of the Democratic Party, he served from 2012 to 2017 as the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and previously as Ohio attorney general, solicitor general, and state treasurer. Cordray was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 Ohio gubernatorial election.
