Caleb Hope Foundation

Nonprofit organisation working in the slums of India

History Claim

The Caleb Hope Foundation (CHF) is a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports children, widows and orphans in urban slums and rural areas of India through education, nutrition, health care and child sponsorship. Its tagline is "Changing one life at a time through the gift of education."

History

The foundation grew out of a 2006 documentary trip to India by the actor and author Jeremiah Caleb, who travelled there to trace the life and ministry of his father, the Reverend A. S. K. Caleb (1934–2002). According to the foundation, it was started that summer by artists and performers in New York City, and it is named in honour of A. S. K. Caleb, who worked with the poor in India and was known as "Radio Uncle" for stories he broadcast on FEBA radio. Jeremiah Caleb is its executive director, and the foundation's mailing address is in Castaic, California.

Work

The foundation describes itself as a humanitarian rather than a religious organisation. Its programmes include:

  • sponsorship of destitute children, funding nutrition, schooling, medical care and housing
  • scholarships for higher education, including the Ivy Scholarship
  • projects including Bhagya, The Butterfly Project and One Life to Love
  • Compassion Teams, volunteer trips to its projects in India (on hold since the COVID-19 pandemic)
  • Rock India, benefit performances by artists and bands, and the Hope Necklace fundraiser
