Apply for an entry

About five minutes. Only the name, one handle, your connection and one eligibility item are required — the more you give, the quicker the review.

1 · Who the entry is for

The person’s or organisation’s name as it should appear.

Know its Wikidata item? Paste the Q-number: it lets Verified Handles fill in and keep the entry current from Wikidata. Look it up on Wikidata.

2 · Your connection

How are you connected to them?

If the entry is yours or your client’s, you will be able to claim it once it is live.

3 · Handles to list

The genuine accounts. Usernames without the @ are fine; for a website, paste the full address.

4 · Eligibility

Which of these fits? One is enough. The policy explains each.

Points are added up as you type. Press coverage is scored by the reviewer (up to 50).

English Wikipedia article

It must be clearly about the subject, undisputed and at least ten days old.

Why we ask

Wikipedia’s own editors have already judged the subject worth an article, so the article is enough on its own. A new or disputed one can still be deleted, which is why it has to be settled and at least ten days old. Please do not write one in order to apply.

Risk of impersonation

For example: “Fake accounts using this name have been reported on two platforms, and followers have been scammed.”

Links that show it — reports, takedowns, warnings you have posted:

Why we ask

Verified Handles exists so people can tell the real accounts from the fakes. Where fakes have appeared, or plausibly will across several platforms, that risk is reason enough to list the subject. The reviewer judges each case, so links that show it help most.

Verified TikTok or Snapchat accounts 50 points each

Only these two platforms’ verification counts.

Associated entry 100 points

An entry already on Verified Handles that this subject is closely tied to — founder, parent company, CEO, band member.

On the entry’s own page, its VHID is in the Menu, under “Permanent link”. How to find a VHID.

Press coverage up to 50 points

Independent coverage in recognised outlets. Paid or promotional pieces do not count.

Official registrations 20 points each

A company number, charity number, professional register — anywhere authoritative the entity is listed.

Why we ask

Without a Wikipedia article, points add up the public signs that people look for this subject online, which is what makes fakes worth making. Each is something the reviewer can check for themselves; 100 points is enough.

5 · Check and send

We keep your application, its evidence and the conversation about it with your account and the IP address you send it from, which we erase after one year. Privacy Policy
